Bogart (Major J. L. H. Bogart)
A signals officer of the Canadian Engineers, read as Major J. L. H. Bogart, who had organised the Canadian Engineers' Signal Service in 1914. He arrives at the yard in late September 1917 ("Nobody knows what job he's going to get"), and in December takes over Rolston's Corps job when Rolston moves to the 1st Field Company: "B. being a signaller doesn't know a screw-picket from an elephant shelter," Robertson writes, and a week later he is "going to prove rather fussy on the phone." He visits the yard with the General on April 18, 1918. The April 13, 1918 order to destroy the R.E. Parks in a withdrawal is signed "Bogart," as Major, Staff Officer, for the Chief Engineer, Canadian Corps. The diary gives only the surname; the match to J. L. H. rests on the signaller, the Corps staff post and that signature.
