Charley Fellowes
Lieutenant Charles Ottly Fellowes, M.C.: "Charley" to Robertson. Born 21 March 1880, he was commissioned into the Canadian Engineers on 20 January 1916 and served as a signals officer (with the Canadian Corps Signal Company and the 1st Canadian Divisional Signal Company), winning the Military Cross (London Gazette 30997).
Named in full on May 7, 1918 ("Charley Fellowes was in to dinner"), which anchors a short, continuous run: away at Savy on April 3, then a career storyline over the following month, getting a company in the 11th Battalion, C.E. (May 29), going to the 5th Battalion under Tim Russell (May 30), and finally "dished on his majority for a while & all thro' Mieville," sent to an Army Troops Company instead (June 1). That engineer-battalion-command storyline sits a little oddly against his own record as a signals lieutenant who demobilized in the same rank, so it is possible the run belongs instead to Major Sydney Hamilton Fellowes (see Sid Fellowes) and "Charley" is a slip; on balance the explicit naming keeps it here. A separate, unnamed "Fellowes" recurs seven times in 1917 (see Sid Fellowes); nothing in that cluster names him, so it isn't assigned here either.
