Nice
Alpes-Maritimes, France
Mentioned: 1917, 1918
Transit / Journey A city on the Mediterranean coast of south-eastern France, near the Italian border and well behind the front. It first comes up in the 1917 diary as a leave destination for others (a friend on leave to Paris and Nice; McCallum talking of going down with two friends). Robertson spends part of his February 1918 leave here, after two days in Paris. His letter of March 16, 1918 to Doris says they "stayed at Nice and had a topping time," put up at a hotel with several American officers, and made motor trips to Monaco, Monte Carlo, Menton and Cannes; on January 13 he had "framed up a trip to Nice if our leaves coincide."
