Cité de Caumont

Pas-de-Calais, France
Mentioned: 1917
Vimy / Artois Sector

A mining district at the southern edge of Angres, reached by a path from the Souchez Valley: independently documented in the history of 76th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery, whose gunners built a road across the valley to reach new positions here in April 1917, after Vimy Ridge. Robertson makes a detour through it on September 25, 1917, "owing to some particularly nasty stuff that Fritz was putting round the batteries." Coordinates are a triangulated estimate (south of Angres, near the Souchez Valley) rather than a confirmed street-level pin.
