Bourlon
Pas-de-Calais, France
Mentioned: 1918
Vimy / Artois Sector A village on the Bourlon Wood ridge, about 8 km west of Cambrai, just beyond the Canal du Nord. After the Canal du Nord and Bourlon Wood operations, Robertson takes a detachment of three pontoons and three trestle wagons forward to the 3rd Brigade, C.E.: on October 1, 1918 it moves to the Raillencourt area to await bridging orders, a heavy counter-attack about noon makes the bridging impossible, and it bivouacs near Bourlon on the night of October 1 to 2 before rejoining the unit near Inchy on the 2nd. This is from his own report in the unit's October 1918 war diary.
