Berthen (Mont des Cats)
Nord, France
Mentioned: 1916
Ypres / Belgium Sector A village in the Nord department of France, about 6 km north-north-west of Bailleul, at the foot of Mont des Cats. Robertson's company is in rest billets here from March 26 to April 1, 1916, after leaving Dranoutre: he has "a jake billet in an estaminet halfway up Mont des Cats," the company drills and practises pontoon bridging, and on March 31 he walks through the monastery and grounds. The diary names the village itself only on March 31 ("Australians in Berthen") and April 1 ("Pulled out of Berthen 8.15 A.M.").
